“Can you use this just for the light? My husband uses laptop which will not fit on the stand. I’m wondering it he can do virtual F2F from his lap top and just use the light nearby to look more professional?”

You can use it just for the light as you described. It’s just a light on a stand with a large base. A phone is not necessary to operate the light. But, if this is for use on a desk (like against a wall), it won’t work because the stand/base is not removable.
