• As you have probably already found out by now this external hard drive can not record off of your tv like a DVR can by itself. -- I think that was your original question.-- It can add to the recordable space of many DVRs available today and also for DVD recorders with built in Hard Drives. • It depends on you DVR. Is it compaitable with the HDD? You will need to research on your DVR.

• If your needing extra storage for a mac, then yes you can have the download location be the capsule. That being said, it might not be the most effecient and similar to having a directly plugged in external hard drive.
