“dubbing several vhs tapes to one dvd I have content from several vhs tapes of home movies that i want to dub onto one dvd. Is it possible to pause the dvd in order to change to another vhs tape and then continue dubbing? If so, is there a certain format of dvd that I would need to use? I have read conflicting answers to this question.”

Yes you can stop it and it resumes when you need it to. I used verbatim dvd-r and they work flawlessly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can record over whatever vhs tapes you want to as long as you don't go over the time for the dvd. It shows on the front of the vcr/dvd combo when recording and stopping how much time you have used. You have 3 or 4 recording times for dubbing over SP,LP,SLP which would be from like 2 hrs. to about 6 hrs. of time. You just press the stop button and put in another tape and dub again as long as you don't go over the time. When you are done finalize the dvd and you can play it in your dvd player or computer or car dvd player. It is DVD-R but if you read the instructions you can find all this out in there.
