What is the difference between DVR620 and DVR620KU DVR620 is the model # Best Buy sells on-line. DVR620KU is the model # in store. Two different Best Buy employees (in store) told me a converter box is not required for recording to VHS with the
DVR620KU. Are they mistaken? I do not have cable.

I've had mine for 3 years and manual says you need a converter box such as Cable or Satellite.

Buy a Magnavox DVR records to Hard Disk, you need to buy a 3ft HMDI cable , one hookup , done works great..about $300.00

I think you at least need an antennae to record any anything from the air, however, as long as it is wired correctly, everything should be OK. Good Luck.
