“I saw in an answer to another question that these switches require using the Tapo app. Since they are listed as HomeKit compatible why can’t they just be controlled through the Home app without requiring the tapo app?”

Hi Jday, you can set up the Tapo TS25 Smart Wi-Fi Light Dimmer Switch with Matter using the Apple Home app, as shown in our FAQ here: https://www.tapo.com/us/faq/412/
