“When doing kettlebell swings, do the weight plates move around in their slots or are they locked in so that the user does not hear them shifting / feel the center of gravity shifting?”

The plates do shift and rattle. It isn’t significant enough to change center of gravity in a noticeable measure. It’s a choice between buying 7 separate pieces or 1 adjustable. Hope that helps.
