• Yes you need xbox live to talk to other people. And you can use headset for all games, or watching youtube

• Yes you need the Xbox live gold card according to my grandson.

• The headset is mainly used for online game play where u have other people playing that you want to talk to. Since most gameplay with this headset is online yes you will need Xbox live because without it you can't play online.
