    On Top For The Price

First off let me say that I am reviewing these based on their price range but I will say that they perform better than some above them in price. You WILL NOT find a better headset for the price, you simply will not. I have tried most of the headsets in this price range and these are above them all in sound and comfort. The only other headset I think is close is the Sharkoon XP Static, but it only has 40mm drivers and there is a difference in bass and immersing feel. Let me also explain why these sound better, I just recently tried the Tritton Detonators and I was really excited because they looked so sweet and they were really hyped at E3 but they didn't add up so they went back, I don't think they used a quality driver (speaker) in the Detonator. It's the opposite for the Turtle Beach X12's, they have to use the best drivers they can get their hands on because even the X11's with the 40mm driver sound better than Tritton's 50 mm. That makes a huge difference in your sound, you have to use quality drivers, it's like buying a 12" sub from KMart and then you go online and buy a 10" Rockford Fosgate power series sub, the 10" will absolutly destroy the cheap 12" you got from KMart. So a quality driver makes all the difference, remember that. The sound from the X12's are very accurate and filling. They are also very comfortable, I would like to see them use a micro swede cover on the ear cuffs instead of the soft mesh, but they are still fairly comfortable. Alot of people get hung up on "Man those look so cool, I think they look cooler than these X12's" if your all about looking cool your going to miss out on sound, but the X12's imo do look good. Oh and the cord issue people talk about, quit saying it's too long, not everyone sits 6 inches from their TV some people play on a larger TV and like to sit and chill on their couch, this let's them do that and be comfortable any distance. If the cord is to long just wrap up the slack and bread tie it, this is not a con. Bottom Line...... It doesn't get any better than this for less than 60 bucks, I have done the research for you, I hope this helps.

Incredible Headset, missed so much without it

Gave this headset 5 starts but a mid-rating for the Value because, independent of how excellent these are, I believe all of these gaming headsets are far too overpriced. That being said, these are the best for the $ spent. The old adage is true, you never know what you have got until its gone, the reverse holds true in this case - you never know what you are missing until you have it. Independent of that, I cannot imagine sound being any better than what these are capable of producing. The in-store demo display actually doesn't show their true potential until you get them home and in a game. It is truly remarkable the sounds, cuing, clarity and deep bass that comes from these 50mm sets. It is very comfortable and I have a VERY large head yet the pressure is very slight despite that, is great. Sounds, there are sounds & triggers in the game that I never knew even existed playing previously only out of a 2 speaker TV (probably like most folks). It really is like an entirely new game and even watching a movie is a totally new experience. The controls in-line for the amplication, bass boost, seperate chat/game volumes are great. Beware - there are a lot of wires going on, coming from the console is a generous ~16' line then there is a nother shorter cable going from the in-line control to the hand held controller. Only took a few minutes to situate the cables, while sitting in one place I dont see this as an issue. If you are the type that scoots around while playing and cant sit still, this may be additional baggage. The MIC, excellent - sensitive, clear, I am communicating with folks with a mere low voice/whisper late at night and everyone hears me perfectly. On the downside, the MIC IS SENSITIVE... So beware of any background noise (animals barking or even conversations) as it will pickup from a much farther distance that you would think. I love it. With the gain controls cranked up in the dead silence I hear the faintest - FAINT - hum when the chat is cranked up to max. Like anything else, shouldn't be running gain controls maxed out. In a text however, with just game volume maxed its crystal clear. Truth be told, unless you are literally near deaf, you wouldn't be able to have the controls near max for more than a moment without damaging your hearing. It is however CLEAR, crystal clear at max gains without distortion in the bass. That is what is amazing, however they did it, these are true Audiophile quality phones that, seemingly, is impervious to being overdriven. If you have been going back n forth, should I shouldn't I - like me, when I got this hooked up and used it, tweaked my controls I am still in awe... BUY IT, you wont be dissapointed. This should be a standard device with all gaming consoles.

Misleading. ONLY DOES VOICE CHAT NOT GAME SOUND!!

    Posted
    Justin

The description of these headphones implies they can do both voice chat AND GAME SONND. This is not true. These can only do voice chat on the xbox 360. No game sound. So basically you are buying a huge headset that does on simple function...voice chat. Wth??? This should be made very clear in the description. Now for the actual function. They are fairly comfortable, but not great. Bery difficult to deal with the insnae amount of wiring and connections. You plug one of the cables that comes with it into the inline control of the headset and the other end into the controller. Then you plug the USB connection of the headset into the back of your 360. Now you haventhe ability to simply chat. The game sounds will still come through the tv. Sk you will never even use the inline control for game sounds, bass boost. Only the chat colume and mute. The USB PLUG is simply to power the headset. NOW, if you have the charger plugged in firmthe controller at the same time, you will hear a BERY LOUD AND ANNOYING "HHHUUUUMMMMMMM" sound or buzzing sound. Unbearable, it only goes away if you unplug the controller charger cord. Now, if you have these headphones on for chat, since they muffle outside noise and you cant get game sound, you dont hear important game sounds very well like footsteps. Very poor design and misleading advertsising. I'm sure you need some $20 adapter to get game sound or something, but that is BS. I do not recommend. There are better options out there.

    My x12 review

I bought these to replace my broken x11's because the wire was chewed through. they're almost identical to the x11's in every way, differeneces are they're black, they have 50mm drivers(speakers), the inline was changed to include a bass boost, and the padding they used is not as good. the static, hum, or interference from them being USB powered has been reduced so they're much cleaner when it comes to producing only low volume sounds. the bass boost feature is actually quite unneeded as the bass is perfect when its turned all the way down, but for those who like bass you can turn it up pretty high. now the ear padding... when wearing these x12's the ear padding is more sound absorbant, they block out sounds from around you much better than the x11's so you can hear more from the headset than you can around you. HOWEVER the padding is thinner and much firmer than the x11's and I found them very uncomfortable to wear after more than an hour of having them on. because they're so much like the x11's the ear padding from the old broken ones fit perfectly on the x12's. I do ear outside of the headset more which is a downside, the upside is I can wear these 3+ hours comfortably. because of the padding issue I drop the overall rating by 1, because of the feature where you can hear yourself in your mic when its not muted I drop the rating another 1. I use this headset for PC gaming and the microphone issue is quite annoying, even though they've reduced the talkback feature with the x12's it is still there. I always wondered why they consider this a feature?

After my landlord complained on a couple of occasions about my surround sound system being too loud I decided that it was time to purchase a headset. Luckily for me, this pair was on sale for $40 and I took the plunge. I'm happy to report that these headphones are excellent and I'm very pleased with my purchase. The sound quality is top-notch and the mic works great! Actually, some of my fellow gamers have complained that the mic works TOO well. LOL! Or, it could just be that I'm loud. Good thing for them the mic is adjustable and I can move it closer or farther away from my mouth as necessary. Also worth noting is the fact that there are seperate controls for the game volume and the chat channel so I never I have a problem hearing what I need to hear. Now for the not-so-great part; First, this is a wired controller so the wires do get in the way sometimes. You'll need to hook these wires up to your system for game sound AND to your controller to communicate with others when you're gaming online. It's a minor inconvenience for the quality afforded but worth noting. The cords are long, which is a plus, to allow you to sit a good distance away from your console and tv. Secondly, and the major factor you should be concerned about is the fact that this pair of headphones is not immediately usable out of the box if you're playing using an HDMI connection to your television. If this is the case, you'll need to buy a seperate accessory which will send audio to the headphones. This is not mentioned on the packaging and costs an additional $20 (at least). Fortunately, Best Buy also sells this accessory as well but it would have been nice to know this before I left the store. Good thing for me (and Best Buy) that I wasn't going straight home to use these headphones, so, I was able to pick the additional cable up before I put them to use. I didn't appreciate paying the extra $20 bucks though, but, since the headphones were on sale, I ended up paying the same $60 that they're listed as. If you're buying full price and playing with an HDMI setup though, these will run you over $80 with the necessary accessory. Overall though, I highly recommend these as they've proven to be a quality set of headphones and are still a value compared to some of the others I've seen.

I bought two sets of these heads sets at Best Buy. One for for my 24-year-old son and one for myself. I must admit they were more than satisfactory until the problem happen. The headband broke on both the headsets. The first one was my sons set it broke after about six months. Mine lasted nine months before the same thing happened They both broke on the side opposite the microphone. I'm 64 years old and do not abuse by equipment. They were never thrown, drop sit on or had any other rough abuse done to them. They both simply broke under normal use. The microphone and speakers components are outstanding. As far as the quality of the material that they are made of, it is extremely unsatisfactory for the price we paid for these headsets.I absolutely would not recommend these headsets.

I bought this on sale and will be quickly returning. Just for some background - I have returned maybe 5 items in my entire life (30 years old). This thing is horribly designed and the performance is absolute garbage. a) Constant and irritatingly noticeable hum from 'chat' channel even if the mic is off. Increases as the volume is raised but even at low to moderate listening levels the humming sound is unbearable for me. b) With the mic on, the hum increases substantially. Granted, I am using it in my bedroom near a gaming desktop that produces plenty of noise, but I have used somewhere around 15 different headsets in a similar environment and never had this problem. This problem is directly related to point C.. c) The constant playback of ones own mic when turned on should not be a mandatory feature. Feedback from background noises increases noise disturbances at all times if you leave your mic active (which most people do for online play) and there is severe lag/echoing when speaking so it basically NEVER performs up to a reasonable level. d) If you have HDMI, the game channel does not work without 3rd party peripherals (or an audio out on your TV.. something that is extremely rare for a TV that has HDMI). This is not mentioned or even implied in the product description. e) Bulky. I felt like I had a moderately comfortable set of cans on my head with a brick hanging off. They show you the in-line controls in the picture but what they don't show you is the mess of wires, especially the 'Hoarders' level clutter it becomes once you plugin the controller adapter. The only positives I have for it are the aesthetics (I'm a sucker for black + lime green) and they do manage to attain an average level of comfort on the ears that one should expect from cans in the same price range. Run far, run fast.

I have to admit I was a little skeptical about buying this headset. As soon as I arrived home I opened the box. I was quite amazed at the quality of the product. As soon as I put the headset in my hands I knew that I had made a good investment. I couldn't resist but to plug them right in. Putting them on, I can say they definitely are a comfortable fit. The cushion on the speakers hug your ears in a way that let them rest at their normal state. The sound is incredible! I really enjoy being able to control the game volume, chat volume, and bass volume separately. Its like having a surround sound right on your ears. One thing I was not so much disappointed, but a little annoyed about is the way the headset has to be connected. There is one cable going to the controller, one to the xbox, and one to this separate cable that converts it to the audio cables which is connected to the TV. I know these are all necessary to be able to have the quality of sound that turtle beaches have and I also know that there is wireless turtle beaches, so that in itself could solve the issue I have. The one thing that really irritates me is the sound I get when I am using the turtle beaches and I am charging the controller at the same time. Its a buzzing sound that I hear and the only thing I can do to avoid this is to switch the batteries on my controllers and charge the batteries that way, or just use the other regular, plain headset. I am not entirely sure if the wireless turtle beaches also have this problem, but I would definitely like to know. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase and continue to use the turtle beaches almost daily and they never cease to amaze me. I would definitely recommend these to everyone!

On May 30th, 2012 I purchased the Turtle Beach X12s I was thrilled to finally get a legit gaming headset, a few months down the road the massive amount of wires began to tangle within itself to the point where wires would become exposed because it was being stretched so much, when I originally purchased the headset i made sure to get the 2 year warranty that was offered to me. On January 26th 2013 I finally had enough of the headset wires coiling and stretching and getting tangled and figured why not put my 2 year warranty to use, the customer service rep spoke on the phone with someone who said i wasnt covered under the warranty because it was my own fault the wires got like that, however i own countless devices in my house all with wires etc and nothing ive ever owned has ever done that, I'm absolutely livid with best buy at this point absolute disrespect when you offer a 2 year warranty for a product its expected that the warranty will be honored. Any major purchases will no longer be made through best buy from here on out.

i want to help anyone who has both systems. this can work with the ps3 also. both my systems use hdmi. my samsung ty has a composite audio out. (red and white). this set comes with an adapter that allows you to connect to the tv audio out and the cord is long enough to reach to the front of your systems. (mine are on shelves top and bottom from each other.) i use the usb on the front of both for power and hook the headset up to the turtle beach audio adapter they provide for sound. and you are set. i change the usb between systems when i play, but it seems to stay powered on even if the system is powered off. you may need to turn the volume down on your tv. my samsung runs the sound both throught the tv speakers and the audio out. i am starting to like headsets better than my surround sound system. i can have the volume up as loud as i want without disturbing the wife. the bass is quite nice for a headset. the sound is not officially surround sound, but it works well enough that you know stuff is behind or to one side of you. the cord is quite long. i have my couch about 8 to 10 feet from the tv. there is more than enough cord to cover the distance and not be restricted by it. as for comfort, it is good. not great, just good. i do have a big head. i wear fitted baseball caps size 8. so if you have a big mellon head, they will fit, but you will every once in a while need to re-position the headset. overall, i am very satisfied. i bought these on black friday for $34.95 and they are well worth that price. the regular price of 59.95 is not bad, but i think they are worth a 49.95 purchase price.

I have been wanting a turtle beach headset for a long time and I'm very happy that I got the x12. I wanted something fairly cheap but still a good product and the x12 is perfect for what I need it for. The price is really good for what you are getting. The design looks really cool and matches the new, black Xbox 360 S and besides the nice, cool looking design, it functions just as well. The headset can adjust to fit your head nice and snug, and despite what i have read about people saying the headset feels like "it's going to fall off my head", that isnt the case for me or anyone that i know that has used it, it might "feel" like it will fall off but i assure you, it wont. Unless your headbanging while your playing video games. So far I have played, Battlefield 3, (the sounds are incredible) Crysis 2, Rage, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, NHL 11, and Madden 11 and 12 and they all sound amazing. So yeah, I would definetlly recommend this headset to anyone who doesn't want to spend an insane ammount of money and wants to be able to play their games and get into them without hearing all kinds of background noises and actually get better at their games.

The quality of this headset is very good. Everything feels solid, the microphone picks up my voice very well, though it seems a little too sensitive at times, because it picks up every sound in my house, including my old, super loud gas furnace about 15 feet away and that can annoy anyone that I'm in a party with on Xbox Live. Sound is great, picks up tons of little details while playing anything from Call of Duty to NHL14. Not sure if it's just a cord or if it's the connection of the wire to the ear cup, but every so often I've had some small issues with not being able to hear people or them not being able to hear me, and I have to mess with the wires a bit. This review was prompted after I bought my brother a set of these to replace the ones that he had that broke after more than a year's use and abuse. This is the same set, as he was happy with them and the price was reasonable compared to others. The problems that I mentioned before were from my headset that I've owned for over a year now and still works, albeit with a little hassle every so often. Great quality, took some abuse over the year+ that I've owned mine, and I'll probably keep coming back to Turtle Beach, unless someone like SteelSeries blows me out of the water with something at a reasonable price. Lastly, the only thing that I wish was different about these was that I wish they had removable/replaceable earcups... In the warmer months they can get a little hot/sweaty/dirty and I wish I could swap them out with new ones, but they appear to be permanently fastened.

Good Surround Sound on My Mac when Used with DSS2

Good surround sound on my Mac. Originally bought this with the DSS2 piece for surround sound on my 17" Macbook Pro. When I upgraded to a 15" late 2013 MBP, the surround worked but the mic would not when paired with the onboard sound card. (17" had both a mic and headphone jack, 15" went to a single combined jack). By using a Turtle Beach Amigo II USB sound card on the 15" MBP, I'm now able to get the surround sound and use the mic. Had to buy this set of headphones w/o DSS2 because there is a fairly small piece that allows the ear cups to swivel and adjust to your ears/head where the ear cups attached to the headband. After about 1.5 years of use, I set the headphones down (set them down, didn't toss them) on my desk and left the room for a few minutes. When I came back I noticed one of the ear cups just hanging by the wires. Not sure when or how it happened, but they obviously wouldn't stay on any more. This time when I purchased the headphones alone, I got the 2 year Geek Squad protection plan in case it happens again. Other than that the headphones do what I want, are fairly comfortable and provide the mic for an occasional use for online chat or moderating a SANS class. I'm not a gamer and have yet to use the headphones for gaming. My main use is for online classes, and to get surround sound while watching movies/tv clips on my Mac. IMPORTANT, these headphones alone DO NOT PROVIDE SURROUND SOUND, you MUST have some other surround sound processor in addition to the headphones.

    Perfect for FPS fans

    mac24seven

Have you ever played a FPS (COD/Halo) and you're running, turn a corner and a guy is standing there looking at you? Or you play against somebody and you just couldnt get near them and are wondering how they knew you were there? He has a headset and knew you were coming and exactly where you were coming from. I purchased this headset for the sole purpose of improving my FPS gaming skillzzzz (or lack thereof). Did it work? Yes. Case in point: I'm standing in one spot, just listening. I hear somebody coming from my left, I look to my left. If its a team mate, hes safe. If its a bad guy, hes dead. I'm ready and waiting for him because I could hear him coming (from a long ways off too). I can tell where people are shooting from and whats happening around me. And this is just with the stereo headset, no DSS! The sound is great and clear. Treble isn't the greatest but its still fine. My only complaint is interference with game chat whenever I have the controller plugged into the USB port (xbox 360). There is a nasty hissing sound that ticks people off. Solution: Just keep fresh batteries in the controller. Overall, its been a great purchase and I'm busy converting people to Turtle Beach. My sister gamed on my headset and fell in love with it and bought one. I now get at least 3 kills MORE per game specifically because I have a headset and can hear the enemy. And ono top of that, it just immerses you in the game so much more. You hear all sorts of ambient sounds you never knew existed. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Small upgrade from DX11, still awesome!!!!

    DANTELEGACY1973

Hello everyone, well I heard about this new headset and decide to buy it. I already own the DX11 that comes with the DSS Adapter. Now if you already own a DX11 and you might want to upgrade to this, is not necessary, two things that I only notice this from the DX11 besides the color, are the earcup are a bit smaller, and secondly the sound has better bass and less distortion for example when you playing really loud. I was playing Black Ops, I crank up the volume and you can notice the small difference. The reason I bought this set, in case I have a friend coming over and wants to play ,I thought it be cool to have a second set. If you have a DSS 7.1 adapter it makes even better. If you looking for your first set ever I highly recommend, for everyone else that owns already DX11, you'll be alright, no need , unless you just have $60 extra and want to expended.

First off, I bought this for my son so that he could play XBox with his friends online and not disturb the rest of the family. His old headset microphone didn't pick up sound and he ended up yelling a lot. This headset definitely solved that problem. Not only does the headset have amazing sound, this headset allows the wearer to hear their own voice as it is picked up by the microphone. This keeps everybody happy. My son's friends can hear him without him yelling, and the rest of the family is happy because they have peace and quiet. The first drawback to this headset is that it has a lot of wire. This is nice for the wearer in that it lets him or her move a significant distance from the console. The downside of that is that it is easy to forget that this headset isn't wireless which usually results in pulling the console off the shelf. I would recommend to those who can afford it, to choose the next model up and go wireless. The second drawback is that the headset comes without all the required hardware to make it work. To use this headset, you will need an adapter that converts the mini jacks to your console's input method. Fortunately, we had the converter that came with one of our learn-to-play guitar games for the Xbox. This wouldn't be an issue with a wireless headset which is why this headset gets four out of five stars.

The sound quality is quite good and the headphones are very comfortable. The separate volume control for chat and game sound is very useful. The price was also good since they were bought on a Black Friday sale. On the downside, when I went to hook them up I discovered I needed to purchase an adapter for my XBox (other options given were not practical for me). The adapter was not too pricy but it required another trip to the store. If I had to do it over again I'd save my money and get a wireless version. The wires included with this unit are long enough to stretch across the room but you are always having to deal with 20 feet of wire getting snarled, etc. Coiling and uncoiling the wires is a pain and I should have gone wireless. If you get this item make sure to get the adapter to plug in the back of your XBox at the same time.

I've had the x12 for about 4 months and i have to say for 60 dollars it was money well spent. The sound quality is amazing on these and it even has boosted stereo on top of it. The sound is rich and the bass is mad It also feels very comfortable i use these for gaming on the computer so i'm sitting for like 5 hours straight and there is very little discomfort. People do tell me my voice in chat sounds a lot clearer now. So far everything works like when i bought it so they're pretty durable and considering i stuff these in my backpack to peoples houses also says a lot. As the cords tend to get in the way a bit it does allow me long hours of game play and no worries about batteries because its USB powered. Setup might take some time so here is the fastest way: Plug them in and use them!! If you're not looking to spend too much for gaming headphones but are looking for a pair that are worth it get the X12.

I have to admit it was the best game i've ever played until i got my X12. The bass made me feel like i was actually in the game. Also i never have to wake up my parents with a loud tv. The mike is so sensitive i sugest holding it a little bit away from your face. The design and color scheme are pretty freaking amazing. And as for comfort way better than any mike i have ever had or tryed on. You definiatly get your moneys worth when buying this mike. Also let me tell all those people out there who have never had and are going to buy a pair get this one and u will fall in love with them the moment you put them on. I hope you liked my review so make the right choice get this mike as soon as possible.

I just found the replacement for my X1's which I've had for years. I tried the X11's and even with the DSS added I could not get the right sound in bass to match the X1's plus DSS. Now the Turtle Beach X12's have arrived. I played a video from my file share in COD Black Ops. until I found the right bass sound & volume on the X12's and DSS. If you don't have a headset this is choice. Very affordable (the price of a game), the new color sceme & Turtle Beach tree printed on the inner speakers is a nice look and super lightweight. Built for long hours of gaming. No matter what game you play this headset will give you a new aspect on the game, add a DSS and forget the outside world. This headset allows you to hear yourself so you are not screaming late at night. Hear everything, PLAY 2 WIN!

I would recommend this to a friend
