• We mounted the TV we purchased to this stand. Since many flat screen TVs have different ways of being mounted, the kit included hardware for multiple different mounting configurations. They do want you to use a "safety anchor" supplied to attach the stand to the wall (to keep little children from pulling it over on them), which may or may not be of a concern to you. This is a "substantial" stand.

• Yes, you can mount the tv directly onto the stand. That’s how I have mine.
