The unit is free-standing but it is recommended to secure it to the wall for safety reasons.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Its a freestanding TV stand but comes with a tipping restraint strap to attach it to the wall. When the tv is installed on the stand it gets a little top heavy but is still secure. I used it for an older 48 in TV thats heavier than my other TV's without the strap and its stable. The base is heavy enough to stabilize the whole thing, but if you're worried about it getting run into or kids climbing on it then definitely use the strap to prevent it tipping over.
