The music feature of this Twinkly package is usb powered and uses a microphone in the usb device to listen to whatever sound is playing near it in the room. You can use whatever source of sound you like, there is no music provided. If you have the television on in the same room it will also pic up on the usb mic and change the lights. To use the music feature you have to change the mode to music in the Twinkly app and then choose the style of lighting that goes best with your music.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The music dongle acts more as a microphone from what I can tell. The Twinkly app has the playlist for just the patterns displayed by the lights. In the app when you turn the music dongle on, the sounds heard by it are “acted out” by the lights. So there needs to be a separate sound source nearby. I placed my echo dot next to where I had the dongle plugged in and had Alexa play holiday music. I would have thought uploading music would have been the better way to do it, but it doesn’t appear to be the case.
