Your hair needs to be totally dried, like normal flat irons, otherwise it would damage the hair. you can apply heat protectant before using the brush.

Its not a blowdryer its like any other straightener you have to dry your hair first. But this straightener is the bomb strightened my hair in one pass. Better than any other ive used.
