• Running 4 watts from your mobile with a decent antenna, and 4 watts from your base with a decent antenna (ground plane) at a minimum height of 30 feet, you should get from 5 to 8 miles or maybe farther. I have seen ground wave propagation as far as 25 miles but that is unusual.
