• If the power source (i.e. cigarette lighter) goes off when youy turn off your car, then it will turn off, otherwise you need to unplug it fromn the power source

• Kelly, I don't know about your unit, but mine will only shut down when the car is turned off as there is no charge going to it. Then when I start the car I have to press the power button again.
