No, you have to keep power (12 V. Or a USB power supply/5 Volts) to the unit for it to record while driving! You could make a plastic case to house it! The unit itself is pretty much sealed but it’s when the power cord connector is attached that you have to open the sealed connector! It is a very nice unit seams much better quality than others I have dealt with!!
