What ever sound the TV is playing will come through the soundbar so the answer is yes. You would not need to change any settings.

It should. We have ours hooked up via digital optical on the back of the tv and we turn the tv sound turned off. As long as you have sound from your disc player coming to your tv then I see no reason why it would not work.
