If the TV channel you watch broadcast the show in 1080P it will display the show in 1080P, otherwise it will use the lower resolution of the TV show broadcast. If you connect to the TV through the HDMI cable from a DVD player or cable box that has an HDMI output, the TV show/movie will broadcast at the resolution of the show.
