When in smartcast your phone/tablet becomes the remote since you're broadcasting from it.

I then got distracted for 30 seconds or so and found that remote now worked. I have summarized that is Smartcast that is delayed and has nothing to do with the remote. I would try again if I were you and wait a minute after Smartcast starts up. I bought this TV because I needed a 24" TV with all the video inputs plus I needed the audio jack and it was also 1080 HD so buying a TV not on sale made the most sense in my case. I looked and could not find a 24" TV with more video inputs. I also needed an audio out jack. All the LGs and some other brands also dropped the audio jack. I had a small set of USB powered computer speakers that I placed behind the TV at the bottom on their sides that sound much better than the built in speakers. Since this TV is very close to where I sit, I needed the speakers to be very close to the TV to sound correct and at bottom sound better than to the sides. One other note...a big initial issue I had with this TV was that the audio continually got out of sync with the video when watching HD. I found that if I had Audio setting for "Speakers" set to "auto"...it happened. I switched this to "On" instead and problem when away. This happened before I used the external speakers so it had nothing to do with those.
