As long as you are casting from a different device than what is acting as a hot spot you should be able to cast. The SmartCast App is not needed to cast. To cast just download the app you want to cast onto the device you want to cast from and tap on the "Cast" icon,

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I haven't tried this, but I would assume yes. However, the phone/tablet would need to be able to be used as a wireless hotspot. Not something that your mainstream companies provide automatically (ATT, Verizon, etc.). This is usually something you would have to pay extra for, or be bundled with your service agreement. If you can connect other devices wirelessly to your phone/tablet, there really isn't any reason this TV shouldn't.
