• Have the same problem with dish network receiver I have to set to 720 .you are not alone.

• Yes I believe it is a manufacturing defect. I had the very same issues with my direct tv and Vizio tv. The solution a direct tv service man helped me find is to change the picture setting on the tv to "game." For some reason this alleviated the issue for me. His explanation was that direct tv varies their resolution often and that this tv likely has cheap hardware or faulty software that can't keep up on certain picture settings. Somehow the game setting helps to improve the refresh. I hope this helps for you too!
