This pad makes it difficult to just plain watch the TV. VIsio needs to offer a stand alone remote that does all functions. The extra remote included wont do much beyond turn off and on and volume.

First, make sure the HDMI cable that goes from your cable box to the TV is plugged into the HDMI port on the TV labeled 1(ARC). The logo should have green around it (see the first picture at the bottom). After you have plugged your DirecTV cable box into the right port, turn on your cable box. Now, you're going to have to use the tablet remote. Trust me, it'll be easy. Make sure you have paired the tablet remote with the TV. Watch the video in this link to do that if you haven't already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYqJcIJYirw After you have your tablet paired with the TV, open the Smartcast app on the tablet and click the gear icon in the right hand side of the screen. Then, click System. Then click "Power Mode". Click "Quick Start". Then click "CEC". Click CEC again and click "Enabled". Now, press the back button. You should be set! Test this out by manually turning off your TV from the back and turning off the cable box. Now, with both off, use your DirecTV remote to turn on the cable box. That should also turn on the TV. The volume buttons on the DirecTV remote should now control the TV volume. If you're worried about using the tablet, then you can always use the smaller, traditional remote that comes with it to control the volume and turn the display on and off. But then you'll have to use two remotes every time you watch TV. Hope that helps!
