• You still need a Roku receiver connected to your tv.

• Yes. There is a pairing button on this new remote. There are instructions included on how to pair the remote to your device. After the remote is paired you can go through the settings to set up Wi-Fi. After you’ve done all that the app can function as a remote as well.
