• Jessie - You can turn on the sound activation screen feature of the VTech VM5254. When it is on, and the baby unit detects no sound, the parent unit screen stays off to save power. Once a sound is detected, the parent unit screen and speaker turns on automatically. Thank you, -VTech Support
