A:AnswerShe can just talk and you will hear her. You have to push the button to talk back to her. These work wonderful for an older person. That is what we purchased them for.

A:AnswerAs far as the parent unit is charged you can unplug and take with you anywhere in the house. It depends how far you go outside. It's certain distance you can take it, check your manual.
A:AnswerUnfortunately not. We also needed four parent units for various places around the house, but had to put two different “baby units” side by side and run them simultaneously to make it work. You can’t program new “parent units” to work with existing “baby units,” which I suppose is designed for privacy purposes.
A:AnswerCorrect. There are w couple of brands that have battery backup on the baby units, like TimeFlys, but they seem to not consistently pick up the audio as well.
It’s worth noting that if the battery goes out on the baby unit, you will know it within a couple of minutes, because the parent unit will begin to beep loudly to let you know it’s disconnected.
A:AnswerWillow - Yes, the baby unit of the VTech DM221-2 needs to be connected to AC power at all times to function. Only the parent units have battery back up.
