Yes. The fireplace has the option to just show the fire or to show fire and produce heat.

Hi FastEddy, It does produce heat. It can heat a room up to about 400 sq. feet. There are two switches, one for flames and one for heat so the two can be operate separately. Hope that helps with making your decision!
