• Hi Crystal, The fireplace is electric, so no real flames and the crystals in the bottom already come inside the unit and do not need to be put in separately. The fireplace does put off heat and can heat a room up to about 400 sq. feet. It also has two switches so you can operate the heat and flames separately.
