Don’t know about past models but the tube delivering the water from the base unit to the waterpik tip is flexible but recoils neatly for storage on the unit. I don’t think it’s designed to be pulled forcefully out straight.

Please try again later.I've not had any problems whatsoever with this one, but for context, the only other waterpik I've owned was in the late 80s (Jr. High)!☺️ That said, it isn't as pliable as I'd expect for a water conduit, but I suppose that's the compromise for that the super-cool cord management.

I've been using mine about four times a day, everyday, since I've bought it and the cord hasn't shown any damage. Not sure about long term, but it'll probably last an average person at least a year.
