Don’t know about past models but the tube delivering the water from the base unit to the waterpik tip is flexible but recoils neatly for storage on the unit. I don’t think it’s designed to be pulled forcefully out straight.

I've not had any problems whatsoever with this one, but for context, the only other waterpik I've owned was in the late 80s (Jr. High)!☺️

That said, it isn't as pliable as I'd expect for a water conduit, but I suppose that's the compromise for that the super-cool cord management.

I'm not sure how durable the cord is on this one but I wouldn't say it snaps very easily. I've been using mine about four times a day, everyday, since I've bought it and the cord hasn't shown any damage.

Not sure about long term, but it'll probably last an average person at least a year.

Yes it is less brittle and cordless but it needs to be charged once in a while.
