You may need different cables if the other model is to much older

Please try again later.When it comes to hard drives each model represent a specific type of hard drive even though they are under the same category type (i.e. WD Blue, Black, etc.) the number within the model number will specify the capacity type. But in short there is no harm is switching drives, even if they are a different company brand (personally I prefer Western Digital since they are more reliable). Be forewarned though as internal drives don't come formatted like external drives and require formatting before your computer will recognize it. Each WD color type drive is made for a specific purpose, so Google it and it will explain what the color represents and what it's suited for.
