I am not that familiar with the Dells. I would pull the old one out and make sure it is a 2.5 inch SATA drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Assuming that the Dell 5000 is a laptop, an easy way to find out is to download a small free program called Crystal Disk Info and then execute it. The program will identify the interface for your internal harddrive in a data block right under the device identification which is in large capital letters and numbers. If the interface is 'serial ATA', then this drive is compatible and will fit.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have replaced HDDs in Dell Desktops, Laptops, and AIO's...from newer machines to machines 9 years old with no issues. I would recommend updating the BIOS off Dell's support site first, then using a program such as "Active@ Disk Image" to copy all system, utility, Dell Partitions.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. While it would work it would be significantly slower.
