Rich, I had a Toshiba laptop years ago and I was able to call Toshiba and provide my serial number and pay some fee and they mailed me my OS on a usb stick and I was able to load my os onto the new hard drive that way. Most recently I purchased a license for Acronis and that software walked me through creating a backup of my computer and transferring it to a new SSD. This method was way easier and I recommend it.
