“There is no quick start guide. Only the little black unit and cord and the legal crap printed in 23 languages. I plug it in and don't know what else to do. This is ridiculous”

I had the same problem, then I realized that this is America. We aren't supposed to know what to do. We are just supposed to buy this crap, and figure it out for ourselves. Once you plug it into your computer, you should be able to find it listed in Settings - Storage or Local Storage depending on the brand of computer you have. Once you find your portable hard drive, you are on your own. I had the Geek Squad come to my home and set up all of my drives for me when I bought my new computer. Manufacturer's love keeping us in the dark concerning how to properly operate their products. Hope this helps.
