    • Answer Plug it in your mac, open disk utility and then you can select the drive and format it to whatever you want and make partitions if you choose to. Very simple and straightforward on a mac.

    • Answer I have several Western Digital drives like this that are about 4-5 years old and they are doing fine. It is a good idea to plug them in every once in a while, there's a physical disc inside that spins, and it's good to spin it every couple of months.
