WD easystore 1TB ext USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive was just delivered. I plugged it into my Macbook Pro and tried to format it for Mac, it wouldn't work. Says it requires Mac OS X 10.9 or later. I'm coming from OS X 10.7.5. Ads say Mac compatible. null

I had a very difficult time as well with setting up on my Mac, I ended up googling it and found a YouTube video on set up which helped me, mind you this was after hours of endless attempts to format. I believe once you go into disk utility (applications/utilities) and erase current format on the external drive for Mac OS extended. After that it should mount to desktop and you should have access to time machine for it.
