“When is says it is Mac OS compatible but requires, "reformatting" what does that entail? We want to use it specifically for a Macbook Pro, does that mean it won't work with it out of the box, and we need to do some configuring first?”

Connect it to your MacBook Pro, use the Disk Utility to reformat the hard drive. That’s it. Super easy.
