My guess would be that your Windows XP machine is not in the NTFS file system format. Here's what I would do - check the format your XP machine is in. Look up on the internet what the capacity of that format is - ie., can it read 4TB? And, also confirm that you can reformat the drive to your XP machine's format. However, reformatting will erase all the files on it, which are backup program related. You would want to save those should you want to go back to the factory setup, unless they are downloaded from the company's website.
