“Is this suitable for recording motion activated short duration video cameras? The Red drive seems to have about the same specs as the purple. Not looking for continuous recording. For back up system PC and record 3 motion activated cameras.”

It would work fine but if you'll be doing a high volume of those writes the purple is better suited.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.people seem to think hard drives are built for only one particular task. Any drive will work for this. I have 5 cameras backing up to 12 of these in RAIDZ2, along with media and image backups, system backups, and VM storage. They all work fine.
