This is from Reddit post. All shucked WD drives share a common HGST part number reference: US7S***. I guess the difference remains a mystery between WD80EMAZ and WD80EZAZ. Given the part number match though I'd expect all of them to have the same characteristics. The earlier WD80EZZX (or WD80EFZX) is labelled as US7SAJ800 equating a Ultrastar He8-8 SATA. In short, looking at the Ultrastar P/N indicators: WD80EZZX (Full white label) = US7SAJ800 = Ultrastar He8-8 SATA (3.3v reset, source WDBBGB0080HBK) WD80EFZX (WD Red) = US7SAJ800 = Ultrastar He8-8 SATA (source WDBCKA0080HBK) WD80EFAX (WD Red) = US7SAL080 = Ultrastar He10-8 SATA (source WDBCKA0080HBK) WD80EMAZ (White label with metal strips) = US7SAL080 = Ultrastar He10-8 SATA (3.3v reset, source WDBCKA0080HBK) WD80EZAZ (White label with metal strips) = US7SAL080 = Ultrastar He10-8 SATA (3.3v reset, source WDBBGB0080HBK) WD80EZAZ seems to have been spotted most frequently in Europe and East Asia until now. I also ended up having a white label(WD80EMAZ). It seems the same drive with only 3.3v reset pin. No problem in my Synology DS1517+ I bought 2 of those both are while labeled. it seems WD got to know what people are doing so they started white labeling it so that people are not selling it. Inside the Synology, drive diagnosis is the same. both have the same firmware too
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. These are some tips if it has Red Drive.. Check if its Made in Thailand Check Serial #.. If it starts with 7SG and next letter is between A-T it would be usually Red drive with 256 MB Cache. Lower the 4th letter is more possible and higher S or T may also get White drives. This is without opening box. You can also open the Box and connect to CrystalDiskInfo and if it shows WD80EFAX its Red and WD80EMZZ is White.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Most of these came with the Red Drive, there are 2 versions of the RED , only difference is buffer size , so there is 2 different part numbers on them.. I have bought one of these without the Drive, It came with the RED, I bought cable, shell, power supply & internal parts .. Only buy one, If it's on sale around $160 to 190, if not Red , resell and lose nothing. There is no way to externally determine what drive is used - label on HDD cannot be seen through venting slots - But the last 3 that I bought over a month, was all Reds, I do not know how long the Easy Store HDD will keep using them.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sometimes, all of the ones I purchased ended up being white label drives. These drives can be the same as the Red label but you cannot reliably tell. I have not had any issues with the white label drives, those that experienced issues on some devices concerning the 3.3v connector appear to have a work around. This is not supported by WD and there is no guaranty that it will work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's made in Thailand, not China. I assume all the ones from Thialand are the red drives, but the only way to know for sure, is to chuck it, who h you plan on doing anyways. Buy it, make sure it's made in Thailand and you should be fine. But if you chuck it, and can't figure out how to put it back together, you will good your warranty. Mine is used as extra storage on my desk.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Seems some are and some are not. Only way to know is to open it which voids the warranty and eliminates return possibility. have to ask yourself...Is it worth the 150$ risk to find out. Google 8TB Red drive to see what your looking for....
