To follow up on my previous response; I received the drives I ordered yesterday, (Friday, 11/10/17) and cracked them open to find some similarities and differences in comparing them to the 8TB Easystore drives I bought this spring and summer. Differences: 1. The packaging now has a Holiday offer on it, so presumably this is not excess Inventory from the summer that they are trying to unload. In a bright yellow circle on the front "HOLIDAY OFFER 250GB CLOUD STORAGE ". If your drive has this, I would take an educated guess that it is a similar drive to what is described here and NOT the drives from the summer. 2. The drive ID is WD80EMAZ. 3. This is NOT a Red labeled drive. Specifically the sticker is all white. (google image search the ID to see examples) The models I cracked out of the EZStore in the spring were WD80EFZX and this summer were WD80EFAX. WD = Western Digital 80 = 8TB Capacity EF = Red Series ZX = 128Mb Cache AX = 256Mb Cache Similarities: 1. Like the FAX it has 256Mb Cache 2. Like the FAX it uses firmware 83.HOA83 firmware. I see this through my Synology DSM Storage Manager app. I do not have access to look at the fw of the FZX My best guess is that the WD80EMAZ is a re-labeled Red drive and the EM means Mobile. The most important things for me are the same, and the differences are just in the label. YMMV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My HD was black.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Western Digital manufactures four 8TB drives, so logically it is one of these: Gold 7200RPM Purple 5400RPM Red 5400RPM Red Pro 7200RPM Of the many I have aquired over the last few months they have always been RED 5400RPM and the most recent the FAX version with 256MB cache. YMMV and since you're not buying this as an internal drive, you risk it being something else. If you require a Red drive, this gamble may not be for you.
