The unit itself must be connected via Ethernet. As for the second question there is an app to access it remotely and you can configure it to be accessible from outside networks if you so choose.

It's hardwired to the network no wifi and yes it's very easy to set up remote access I use it all the time there's a phone app the PC web page to access it there may be other ways but I don't know

You can connect to this device only via Ethernet. Once it is in network, you can remotely access via mycloud.com site. You need to create an account to access it.
