I have a MacBook Pro and my hard drive works fine on it. I did initially have it plugged into a standard computer but everything was easy set up.

I know my Macbook Pro recognizes a PC formatted external drive but I believe that is OS and device specific. Look it up on the MAC website too. It should be very easy for you to get the answer.

My observation is that the drives that I have purchased since 2015-December have come with a default format of exFAT. I have purchased "Windows-compatible" drives, and I have no experience with "formatted for Mac" drives. So I strongly suspect that this drive will be Mac-compatible without your having to format it, since it is likely to have a default format of exFAT.
