“I am not able to write to this external drive. I installed the Mac software that came with the drive. I can read, but not write. When I click on get info and then unlock the drive I cannot change permissions.”

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Determine if the drive is compatible with a format writeable from a Mac. I have formatted all my external drives as exfat which can be read and written to by both Macs and Windows machines. Several drives already come formatted as exfat or with an Apple format; others need to be reformatted using the Mac’s disk utility. Save the current contents of the drive before reformatting; reformat; then copy back the saved information.
