You need to hook up your iphone to your laptop first and download all your pics. Once done you can transfer them to the external hard drive. I Western digital external hard drives and use them for my work

You should be able to see both devices on your laptop and just transfer files directly from your phone to the drive. No need to load the photos on your laptop first. Make sure your laptop is plugged in as 3 devices will draw a lot of power.
