• It should, but I would talk to someone at Western Digital (WD) before proceeding. When you purchase this product, you automatically get full support from WD. I recently upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 and had no issues. It should do a backup of Windows Vista and then 10, but I wouldn't want to steer you in the wrong direction. Speak to technical support person at WD (800.ASK.4WDC) to be sure.

• Yes they both have the same file system, NTSF.

• This will only support Windows Vista, 7 and 8. It's not compatible for Windows 10 operating systems.
