• Personally, I wouldn't edit video from an external drive unless it's a solid state. I have several photog friends that burn through hard drives by editing from externals.

• Yes, if your computer has a USB 3 port. It is NOT fast enough if you only have USB 2. If you only have USB 2, look at a drive that has firewire 800 or thunderbolt (or SATA if you're computer has that interface)
