You probably measured the front height of the microwave. The back is always taller. Model WMH1163XVQ is 29 7/8 wide, 17 ¼ high in the back and 16 ¼ high in the front. The depth is 15 7/16 deep. When changing an older unit to a new one, you always remove the wall plate and install the new wall plate that will be included with each new unit. There are templates that will come with each microwave that show you where the holes in the top of your cabinet should be and for the new mounting plate at the back wall.
