    Exactly What I Needed

I had planned to install an over-the-range microwave at some point after I had an over-the-range outlet put in. The house is old and the original range was an all-in-one unit. The replacement vent hood from the former owner had the cord wrapped around and plugged into the wall. The problem is, my old microwave didn't stick to the plan and died. I had to decide if I would buy another countertop microwave, or go ahead and get an over-the-range one and do the same with the cord. I decided to forged ahead and get an over-the-range model, one that might sit on the counter until I was ready. I read many reviews on this site and decided this one would be best. It had all the features I was looking for, especially a kitchen timer that I relied on my old microwave for. The sad thing was that 1) it was too tall to slide under the cabinets to stay on the counter, and 2) much too big for me to install myself. I didn't reduce its score for that; it was all my fault. I had to hire a handyman to install it for me, who did it for $85 in case you wondered. The appliance itself is wonderful. It is set to exhaust into the room by default, but comes with adapters and instructions for an outside vent. The entire unit feels built quite sturdily, the interior is spacious with a turntable, The noise for the operation of the oven and for the vent is much lower than my old Broan hood, but I have to say while that's nice, the lack of power, I guess, means it's not terribly strong at pulling up steam, but it will pull up smoke quite nicely (yeah, it happens). The controls are intuitive with high and low settings for both the vent and light. It has several presets that are actually useful, cook time and cook power options for mixed programming, and a button that will instantly start for 30 seconds or add 30 seconds to operating cook time, which my old unit didn't have, but I have quickly come to love. Two of my greatest concerns were that the unit would sit so low that the room to work on the range underneath would be impaired. It's not. I'm 5'3" and haven't noticed any problems. Also because I'm 5'3" I was concerns that the unit might sit too high than would be comfortable for removing hot foods. Again, it's not a problem. It feels a tiny bit high, but I can see the entire floor of the unit to the back wall, and the reach is comfortable. As for the cord, well, I'm sure what I did was against code and is immaterial to the review. ;) The only thing I don't like about it is that darn timer. If you remove your food early or use the timer, it will continue to beep every minute until you turn it off. That's not as bad as the GE I had in my apartment that beeped continuously until you turned it off, this is just one beep every 60 seconds. I can live with that for this great appliance.

I wanted to use the microwave at least a month before writing a review....so far it's great, it's a very nice microwave and not too noisy. I like how in the little window you get instructions on how to do what you're trying to do (i.e. when defrosting..it displays enter weight, then it displays enter type of food (meat))..it does the same when setting up the clock...I haven't tried any other features but I'm sure I wont be disappointed once I do...

It looks great but the carousel that makes the plate turn is plastic and melted. I had to replace that and the handle to open the microwave broke and I can't even replace that.

Bought the product 6 months ago and the handle is starting to peeled off now. Turns to be it's not stainless handle, it's plastic/stainless wrapped handle. Called the whirlpool Customer service and they can't even send me a new handle directly to me(Even When it's still under warranty). Thanks to best buy associate for helping me with this issue. And A big disappointment for the whirlpool customer service.

I got this microwave for a steal. It's really the main reason I bought it. It's boxy and ugly and doesn't match anything in my kitchen. It works well enough, has several quick set buttons. I like the 30 second button. If you like ugly microwaves and aren't worried about a matching kitchen it's great if you find it on sale like I did. Otherwise I would get something that matches the rest of the kitchen.

I got this on clearance and got a killer deal on it, but I probably would've paid even more for it. I'm remodeling my kitchen and needed a new microwave, and started looking at the above-the-range ones and landed on this one. While I wait for it to be mounted, I've got it up on 1" strips of wood on the counter so that I can still use it and it can still ventilate properly, and I've had zero problems.

This microwave is very good, quite and easy to use. Installation requires two people and some basic skills. Remember to remove the glass plate before lifting to hang in place (if mounting over range). I forgot to do this and the plate came crashing to the kitchen floor. New plates are very expensive...$40 +.

    Excellent Microwave Hood Combo

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We hunted & researched for quite awhile & this was our favorite model Microwave/Hood combo because of great looks, high ratings, size & price. We were installing it in a spot that happened to have a full wall directly on the left of the microwave. We got it installed and thought it was increadibly sharp looking, but ended up not able to keep it because the door would not swing open all the way due to the wall. In other words, the microwave measurements became wider with the door fully opened. (This would not occur in a regular kitchen cabinet installation). We were so dissapointed! The unit worked beautifully & had a lot of cooking options. We had no issues with the vent/fan as some other people did in the reviews. The vent is adjustable for different location installs. It worked just as it should. We ended up buying a different model, one that measured the same width even with the door opened...it is nice, but the one here was quite a bit nicer.

    Runs quiet and looks good

We've been using this microwave for a couple of weeks and so far it has met all of my expectations. It is quiet while running, I love the light with the nightlight. The fan is also fairly quiet. I looked around for an above the range microwave that had the interior space of a regular size countertop and this one does. I have had three GE microwaves over the last 10 years one was a counter top and then we bought the same type for over the range. We moved and left it behind. I then bought another counter top GE model. So when I started looking for an over the range model because of a kitchen remodel I really wanted the same type because I liked the one touch operation, each button 1-6 is that many minutes. I give up looking for the GE because they were all so small on the inside. So I decided to give this Whirlpool a try, the price was great due to a sale, The interior is larger than most in my price range, The turntable is the larger size, it looks good, the door is quieter than most microwaves when you close it and keying in the minutes isn't that bad after all....and if I take time to read the manual beyond general operation I may find that I am able to set it up that way. Will come back in a few months to let you know how it is holding up.

    So Far So Good

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The real test of an appliance is how it's working long after the purchase. We've only had our microwave a few weeks so it's way too early to judge. Still, there's a lot to like about it. The installation was pretty easy once we figured out the directions. It's a perfect size for our family. It's much quieter than our old microwave and cooks much faster. It's also easy to use. We programmed the night light to go on from 11p to 6a which is perfect for late night kitchen runs. We would have liked to jump up to a model with senser cooking and more features but the price jump didn't justify it. But for a couple hundred bucks, this microwave looks high end and seems to work fine. Hopefully the quality is there and will allow us to enjoy this microwave for 18 years, which is how long our old Whirlpool microwave lasted before we replaced it.

It is pretty ordinary, average over range microwave. One of the things I like is that it is pretty quiet. Also, it heats really fast and well. (I don't do much other than heating left overs or defrost frozen food. so I cannot say any other cooking function. I paid $199 but I think $169 is about right price for this microwave. Overall, I like this buy.

    Overall great for price; hard to clean;

This microwave looks great and is fairly priced for it's functionality. As expected, it's stainless steel finish is hard to clean/keep clean. Installation was a breeze; the only hiccup was one of the threaded mounting holes on top of the unit got disattached from panel. I had to remove the panels to retrieve and reattach the peice to complete the install. Seemed like a fluke that it happened on my unit, so i wouldn't knock the product for it. Heats up food pretty fast; vents do their job without being too loud. I am satisfied with this unit, and would recommend it to anyone on a similar budget.

The design is sleek and the finish beautiful. I've had it only a month and so far cooks evenly and is easy to operate. Great value for the price! The only thing that is a slight nuisance is that is shows fingerprints easily...but then again all these new types of finishes do.

Great Microwave, heats food REALLY fast. Only complaint was that the vent doesnt seem to suck up as much unless the pot or pan is right under it, but maybe we need to reinstall the hood. Otherwise, I love it.

We had a prior microwave/hood combination catch on fire, so we needed a replacement that wasn't the same brand and wasn't expensive. This one works well, was reasonably priced (the cheapest price of white microwave/hood combinations at the time) and looks nice with our other white appliances. There is not a shelf in the microwave, but because that is what caught on fire in our prior microwave, we were not upset about that. We are happy with the microwave and would recommend it to others.

Once I got the microwave home and open I noticed that the templet didn't seem to match the holes where the screws and cord would go. Because of this, I had to have someone install it for me instead of doing it myself which I had planned. The installer had a terrible time getting the holes lined up to fit the microwave and it took him much longer than it should have. I'm so glad I didn't try to do it my self but just thought it was strange that that the templet didn't match the microwave, It cost me another $125.00 to have it installed. ----- Just very frustrating.

Didn't really need to replace but got a great deal with bundle. Love the look, replaced all black model. This one is much quieter during cooking. Other review stated no front venting, that is incorrect. Instructions are a little confusing. Just install and it will vent out the front of the model. It even has a charcoal filter to help with cooking smells. Has lots of options.

This unit came very well packaged in a combination of heavy foam and shrink wrap. This unit was priced very low in relation to the other micro-hoods, but the stainless steel looks expensive and the unit has everything you need in a micro-hood. The two-speed fan allows you to run the fan on low which is very quiet. The light also has a low-high setting. The unit was easy to install using the provided templates. The unit comes in the self venting mode, if you want to vent his up or out you will need to adjust the air diverter for the appropriate venting. I looked at Samsung, LG, and GE before making my decision. I am glad I purchased this WHIRLPOOL unit.
