Hi Malory, for this Whirlpool - 1.7 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Fingerprint Resistant Microwave -Stainless Steel the mounting of both are similar, however, the current unit and the WMG31017HZ do have different specifications. We would recommend checking out the Installation Manual for more information on the difference between the two.
