I noticed the upper vents on the microwave have wide open holes with not much grate for protection from dust or debris falling in. Is this normal? Is there some kind of ventilation cover for the top to protect the vent more? null

I bought a new one 7 years after this post and still no grill at the top front of the microwave! I thought I left the part in the package and looked up for it all over the place. It's a big house things can fall into it on the top shelf. Hello whirlpool designers pay attention to the feedback

Does this answer stand if the unit is vented up through attic pipe?

I just bought the same unit and installed it and noticed the same wide open gap. Looked for the simple grated trim piece to cap the gap and push the air out away from the cabinet. No luck. A 49 cent piece of plastic ..

Hi CMTX, there is no cover for the top of the vent. Covering this area would not allow the unit to vent correctly. We hope this helps!
