“We want to replace our 25 year old Whirpool side by side for a new one (it is shot) mainly because it is one of the few 33 inch wide fridges to have crushed ice in the door. Does the newer model have that capability in the ice maker? Thanks”

Yes it does have a crushed ice feature. The crushed pieces of ice are Small & uniform.
