The only light that comes on is the symbol for refrigerator or freezer door ajar. I find this a helpful addition to my previous model. If a food item is blocking the door from completely closing, the light will alert you to the problem. I had that happen with a previous refrigerator and it caused the temperature in the refrigerator to rise, causing damage to some of the food before I noticed it.
